It is unknown as to when, exactly, Accoutrement Belt Plates first appeared. It
must have shown up sometime during the late 1970's or early 1980's. As with the
Seibert book, Accoutrement Belt Plates was designed for one purpose - to further
deceive unsuspecting collectors and further confuse collectors
who were starting to catch on to the buckle scam.
Accoutrement Belt Plates, contains pictures of most
of the bogus buckles (and buttons) that were created. Buckles are identified
by name and a number assigned to them (what those numbers really
mean is anyone's guess) - most likely just another attempt to make these buckles
appear to be genuine antiques dating back to the 1800's. Of course, none of
the buckles listed were made until the 1960's, at the very earliest. As to
be expected, the company (Tiffany & Co.
of London, England) mentioned as having published this book, never existed - the real Tiffany is based in New York,
no specific author is mentioned, no copyright date is provided, and the"registration
number" is
simply meaningless (although it looks "official").
This new edition is presented as an eBook (an Adobe .pdf file that is
readable on all computers platforms using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader) in
attempt to stop the Bogus Buckle Scam that has gone on for far too long. The
actual value of this book, at least as far as the content of the original version is concerned,
is absolutely worthless as it was simply fabricated to promote the buckle scam.
Even so, it is the only known record that lists such a large number of these
buckles and is therefore, valuable to those who may be collecting
them (hopefully, with the knowledge that these buckles were manufactured as
part of a scam).
This electronic version contains several features that were not printed in
the original: these include the addition of a(n):
1. Preface
2. Table of Contents
3. Index
4. Appendix that includes photographs of buckles listed but not pictured in the original
(only one buckle is not pictured).
